Gindara

126B, Nawala Rd, Sri Jayawardenepura Kotte

Gindara is a superb buth kadey in Nawala.

Filling the void of (or lack thereof) good rice & curry places around Nawala, Gindara has been lit since day one.

Rice & Curry

Aside from rice & curry, they also do BBQ, which is available only in the evening. Each buth plate comes with four veg curries and a protein of your choice, alongside some good old papadam and fried chillis.

This plate of Prawn Rice & Curry (Rs. 280) came with parippu, cauliflower, amberlla, and kang kung curries. With spot-on flavours and textures, it wins full points from us.

The parippu curry was milky with enough spices to balance it out, while the amberella being that sweet and sour delight. We absolutely loved the cauliflower curry too. It was nicely thel daalaa and seasoned with chilli flakes.

The highlight, however, was the prawn curry. Oozing out with hints of pepper, and goraka, they were jumbo prawns that were cooked adequately, and deliciously chewy in texture. They give you around five of these, alongside a generous serving of gravy. Superb!

We also got a Chicken Rice & Curry (Rs. 250), accompanied by cauliflower, bitter gourd, kang kung, and potato curries.

This time around, the milky addition to the plate was the potato curry, and it did a very good job balancing out the spicy flavours. Albeit on the oily side, the bitter gourd curry didn't disappoint either.

Boasting a delicate peppery touch, the chicken curry was our favourite out of the lot. Its gravy itself is flavourful enough to finish up this plate of rice.

Desserts

Gindara has a fridge full of desserts (and soft drinks) and we went with a couple of them. Priced at Rs. 50, these cups of Wattalappan and Caramel Pudding were nicely executed, and they are just what you need to calm down your tastebuds after gobbling down a spicy meal like this.

Service & Ambience

Gindara is quite popular for takeaway and delivery options, but they also have a couple of stools and tables, if you feel like sitting down for a meal at the kadey itself. It's nothing fancy - not air-conditioned, but has a fan, and gets the job done.

The lady behind the counter was quite helpful with our order, and quick on her feet.

Conclusion

Well, what can we say? Gindara is on fire! Their offerings are solid, and you definitely get your money's worth. Try 'em out!
