La Rambla has actually been around for a while now and just like its contemporary in Colombo, The Boulevard, we feel it's quite underrated for the level of quality they offer. On our previous visit we only tried their desserts, which are pretty good but what really impressed us this time around were their savories. Their menu, while not the largest in terms of selection still offers a respectable variety with an emphasis on European and Italian Cuisine. They aren't cheap, but considering the portion sizes, the prices aren't too steep. Expect to pay somewhere between Rs. 1500 - Rs. 2000 per head. The menu prices are inclusive of taxes, so only the 10% service charge will be added.
The deep fried fillo wrapped prawns with Thai sweet sauce (Rs. 500) was a great way to start the meal and jump start our appetite. The fillo wrap was crunchy, stuffed with pan fried, well seasoned prawns. The Thai sweet sauce further complemented the prawns, adding a bit of sweetness with a subtle spiciness from the red chillies.
For our main we went with the honey glazed roast pork ( Rs. 1280) which is served with penne pasta, a pineapple and mustard sauce, served with a side of salad. Every element of this dish was on point, both in terms of textures and flavour. The pork was prepared in the form of roulade and cooked perfectly with the five spice marinate adding another layer of flavour. The cut of the meat was also satisfactory with a good ratio of meat to fat, with the latter rendered quite well. While the preparation of the bed of penne pasta was simple, it was also one of the best I've had in a while with plenty of creamy white sauce which was perfectly counteracted by the lightly peppery mustard sauce. This is one of those dishes you'll want to eat slowly and savor every bite.
For dessert, we had the crème brule parcels (Rs. 400), which wasn't really crème brule at all. This was more along the lines of custard filled tartlets.
While the fact that it wasn't crème brule was slightly dissapointing, the parcels still tasted pretty good for what it's worth.
La Rambla has a great location down Hotel Road, away from the hustle of Galle Road and St.Thomas' College. it's basically a renovated old house with white washed walls and colonial architecture. We dropped in during lunch but La Rambla would make for a pretty late dinner date as well.
The service was pretty good, but had room for improvement in a few areas. We were served by two waiters, both of whom were very attentive but the younger of the two didn't really know the menu items, but that's generally the case with less experienced staff. It wasn't really a big deal though since the menu is pretty descriptive. The service was very fast so they had each course ready by the time we we finished the prior one.
Despite not being perfect in all accounts, La Rambla made us happy. With a quiet and elegant setting, good food and fast service, it makes for a great place to have a meal.

While it benefits from a lovely location the food at La Rambla has never struck me as exceptional (its been downright disappointing at times) but on a sweltering afternoon we were desperate for a cold drink and something sweet so we piled in and ordered the dessert platter (Rs 600) and a pavlova (Rs 400).
