MacMart has an all-new spot down Marine Drive now, a few meters away from their previous location. They offer up a bunch of interesting sweets that suit any occasion. Even having a glimpse at it can give you a sugar rush.
“Oh sweet lord” - that was the first thing that popped into our heads as we entered the store. We were stunned by the shelves full of chocolates, candies, biscuits, chips, dried fruits and nuts that they had in stock. You can feel yourself getting excited about all the sugar. After all, we are driven to find that one sweet, sweet molecule - am I right?
Lots and lots of shelves, displays, and containers, filled with choices, and frankly put, it could be a bit overwhelming if you don't know what they are half of the time. Anyway, it's a good thing that you can take your sweet time here to explore them. They’ve got a good collection of bottled and canned drinks - from brands that you can easily find at local supermarkets to drinks you probably saw that one time, when you weren’t paying attention to an advertisement on an obscure corner of a webpage.
MacMart also carries Doritos and Cheetos (yay!) and quite a lot of variants of that. We also spotted the usuals like Pringles and Lays in this section. And as my colleague pointed out, they have Ding Dongs - he was particularly happy about it.
The Special Offer Table carries a whole load of lollipops, toffees, and chocolate bars, which you can grab for discounted prices.
And mind you, this table is not a seasonal one.
Bask in the glory of what can only be described as the heaven on earth for any sweet-toothed person and a nightmare for a nutritionist. Either way, the collection of chocolates they have here is pretty amazing.
Stacked up with Toblerone bars, and other brands like Tubex, Bravo, Mowix, Mr. Tom, Express, Mars, and Snickers - whichever your taste buds fancy, they have it all. Usual KitKats, its green kind, and if you prefer the elegant looking KitKat, they have the gold ones as well. As you can probably see in the pictures, they also have brands like Cadbury and Lindt.
They politely pointed out with a bit of pride that they have Starbucks Frappuccino coffee drink, and since we don’t have Starbucks here, this is a good place if you want to get the taste of the worldwide coffee franchise.
They also carry Nutella Special Editions, alongside the normal ones.
We were thoroughly impressed by their spread dried fruits and nuts -which includes brazil nuts (even if it's not actually a nut but a seed, hello FRIENDS fans), mashuga nuts, sunflower kernels, almonds, pistachios and many more.
We bought an energy drink featuring a logo of a charging bull - the Tonino Lamborghini. Priced Rs. 250, it didn’t disappoint as it tasted quite similar to a RedBull.
Fiesta Potato & Corn Crisp was simply a delight to dive - crispy and well-seasoned, it’s the perfect game day snack. At Rs. 600 a packet, we didn’t feel like we were robbed even if it’s a bit on the pricier side. We didn't expect the Cadbury Mini Creme Egg to actually contain eggs, but it had a handful of neatly and individually wrapped, carefully crafted chocolate eggs. Delicious.
We didn’t necessarily enjoy the Fair Price Muruku Fine (Rs. 500) due to its lack of seasoning, but, we'd happily recommend the ever so healthy Sunflower Kernels (100g for Rs. 350). It was unsalted and deshelled, so it is as easy to eat and as healthy as they come - I can see why Fox Mulder eats it a lot.
They have plenty of helping hands, arranging and attending to their vast selection of tightly packed items. Everyone was quite prompt and efficient. If you are ever confused about your selections or if you just wanted some input, ask away. They are happy to help.
These goodies are not exactly cheap, but if you are too tired of staring at the same old brands on the shelves in the local supermarkets, MacMart would make you very happy.
A trove of sugar rush!
