Regardless of what season you’re in, the urge for Chocolate Biscuit Pudding is not affected by the passage of time. You can either opt to make one at home, or if you’re not about all that and want to avoid the hassle, here’s our list of places you can get Chocolate Biscuit Pudding from!
BOND’s Dutch Delicacies
Delivery only
BOND’s does one of the richest CBPs we’ve ever had, embedded with a dash of Dutch goodness. At the moment, they have only 2 kinds – Classic and Marzipan, which are available in 120g and 200g jars. With silky smooth, luscious dark chocolate layers that are so damn intense in flavour, their Classic Chocolate Biscuit Pudding is the mark of perfection. The milk-soaked Marie biscuits have just the right level of sogginess – soft enough that you can scoop it up using a plastic spoon, but firm enough that it holds a good physical state without falling apart. The Marzipan has the same excellent quality as the Classic, along with the wonderful addition of Marzipan, which makes it sweeter and nuttier.
Bellissima
Known for their boozed up and super interesting twists on the classic chocolate biscuit pudding, Bellissima’s range of CBP is one of a kind. As of now, they’ve got 10 flavours; Arrack & Chocolate, Arrack & Orange, White Chocolate Raspberry, Salted Caramel, Baileys, Mint Chocolate, Matcha, Virgin Pina Colada, and Sri Lankan Milk Coffee, so there’s something for every palate. Decedently gooey and absolutely rich in flavour, these goodies are presented in jars, and available at a number of cafes and restaurants in town, including Black Cat Café, Life Food. Roccos, Ramen Misoya Colombo, Brew 1867 by Dilmah, De Vos Cafe and Kopi Kade. Plus, upon request, they craft up custom printed miniature jars too for weddings and other events. For more details, DM them through Instagram or simply drop a WhatsApp text to 0766267777.
Better Butter Bakery
Delivery only
We love better butter bakery for many good reasons and their range of CBP is certainly one of them. Their take on CBP comes with different flavour additions, and we had the privilege of trying out the Oreo Heaven. Enriched with crushed up Oreos, this one has a smooth chocolate cream base, layered with adequately soggy Marie biscuits, and just the right amount of sweetness. A box of this can easily serve four, which is a pretty solid deal for just Rs. 550.
The Cake Factory (5th Lane)
91A, 5th Lane, Colombo 3
Our winner for the great CBP Taste-off of was none other than the CBP from The Cake Factory. Offering a humble offering of moussey, chocolatey goodness that somehow managed to land itself right on the meter in terms of sweetness, this little cake shop managed to tick all the boxes for a very very good CBP.
Biscuit Pudding Company
28/A/4, Pallidora Road, Dehiwela
The Biscuit Pudding Company is also a home-based spot that delivers their CBP in little, delightful jars that range from Rs. 350 – Rs. 450. They use the same base for their different varieties of the CBP, but make sure the toppings are exciting, from Chocolate to Kit Kat and Snickers, they’ve got it all. Using the same base for all the CBPs must mean their base is good, and that’s where you’re wrong; it’s heavenly.
Coco Fuzz
73/A, Dharmapala Mawatha, Colombo 3
Coco Fuzz are the proud possessors of an unorthodox flavour of CBP: the White Chocolate Biscuit Pudding. While you generally have an arsenal of exciting places who have simple variations or different renditions of the Original CBP, Coco Fuzz is bold enough to take their CBP to the next level, and it works brilliantly! A blanket of snow with nougat imbued into it, along with the exquisite aroma that wafted from it, the taste was equally satisfying; a slight milky tinge to it, the texture was thick and creamy, and the marie biscuits perfectly soggy and maintaining to manage a firm physical state as well, and with the crispiness of the nuts and the teeth slicing into the Marie biscuits, it was heavenly. The Classic CBP was also as overwhelmingly relishing as the first one. Their White CBP is priced at Rs. 950, while the Original goes at Rs. 750.
Flayvors
Delivery only
Flayvors is all about this beloved local dessert. They’ve got a collection of interesting varieties of that, and our favourite was the Milk Heaven. It’s essentially their version of Milk Chocolate Biscuit Pudding. Aside from the excellent layers of luxurious chocolate cream and milky Marie biscuits, they top up their CBP with chopped up roast cashews, which is always a pleasure to munch on.
Choco in a Jar
Like the establishment suggests, they too bring to us their CBPs in jars of delight! The three variations of the CBP they do are exceptional; the Original (Rs. 400), with the perfect balance in all aspects, the richly flavoured Baileys infused CBP (Rs. 450), and the Peanut Butter CBP (Rs. 450), fusing the chocolatey and nutty taste that we adore.
Oh My Cake
56, Stratford Ave, Colombo 6
Oh My Cake is an adorable, little dessert bar down Stratford Avenue, and as the name implies, they do cakes, and a range of other desserts, including a stellar CBP! Priced at Rs. 300, it follows an unorthodox format. Unlike the normal format, this one has only two thick layers of slightly sogged up, but still crunchy Marie biscuits, sandwiched between a layer of rich ganache and silky smooth chocolate pudding slathering in the middle. Oozing out with decedent chocolatiness, it isn’t excessively sweet – so all the sweetness it has comes from the Marie itself!
Mitsi’s Delicacies
34A Bagatalle Road, Colombo 3
Mitsi’s Delicacies has been around for quite some time now. And while we haven’t paid them a visit in some time, they faired quite well in our last edition of our CBP taste off. With a decadent layer of chocolate encasing the crunchy biscuit that somehow maintained a soft pudding-like texture overall, Mitsi’s proved be be a pretty solid case of CBP.
The Pudding Stop
Joseph Lane, Bambalapitiya
Maintaining a price range of Rs. 450 – Rs. 600 on the servings that serve 4, the Pudding Stop does a brilliant collection of mouthwatering CBPs, from the Classic and the Kit Kat to the Ruby Red and Nutella Crunch. They also excel at doing larger servings, going up to a maximum of 20 people.
CuppaCrème
15A, Robert Road, off Quarry Road, Dehiwala
CuppaCrème is a home-baker that also does some great CBP. The small is priced at Rs. 1800 and can serve around 6 people. Our last experience from CuppaCreme was sometime back, and was heavenly, and the fact that they’ve been around for so long is a testament to how good they’ve become over the years!
Bunnavo Bakes
Delivery only
Unfortunately, we haven’t been able to try out the CBP at Bunnavo Bakes yet, but if it is as good as their cinnamon rolls, you’re in for a treat. Their CBP comes at Rs. 590, while the Chocolate Biscuit Pudding eith walnuts comes at Rs. 690.
Sponge
347, Galle Road, Colombo 3
Sponge happens to be an OG of the bakery scene in Colombo. However, we’ve tried their CBP a couple of times and unlike the quality of most of the other items on their menu, their CBP tended to be a tad more on the sugary side of things. It might not be our cup of tea, but it might be yours. Who knows?
Gourmet CBP
78/5 Wickramasinghapura Road,Battaramulla
After taking a break, Gourmet CBP is back, and we couldn’t be happier. They do 16 flavours which belong to three different categories – regular, limited edition and liqueur infused and you can get them in three sizes – jumbo single, (Medium) 6-pack and (Large) 10-12 pack. Even after all these years, they’ve managed to keep the consistency of the flavours, portion sizes and quality of the products intact.
So next time that craving hits you, with the help of this list, you know where you should be headed!
