Vegan-friendly Restaurants In Colombo – 2021.

If I had to compile a list of all the vegan-friendly restaurants in Colombo 4/5 years back, it would have been an awfully short article. But today, there are quite a few vegan options in the city — some entirely vegan, while the others are vegan friendly. So as the world celebrates Vegan Day (1st of November), let's have a look at these awesome places that craft up some delicious vegan dishes.

The Vegan

The Vegan in Boralesgamuwa does vegan-ised versions of all your favourite local streetside eats and fast food — kottu, fried rice, submarine, burgers and wraps, as well as a range of pasta. Their Crispy Mushroom Submarine is a killer, the Polos Burger is a cult-favourite, while the Mixed Fried Rice has a lot of tempting elements, such as mock meat, tofu and mushroom.

Lucuma Vegan Cafe

Lucuma Vegan Cafe adds an entirely new realm of taste to the vegan food scene in Colombo, with their incredible Pumpkin Pancakes, Tofu Guacamole Toast, Chickpea Frittata and a whole bunch of cakes and other sweets. They even have an interesting collection of homemade vegan chocolates, like Matcha Mint, and White Chocolate with Strawberry.

Seed Cafe

Seed Cafe is a place loved by vegans and non-vegans alike, for many obvious, tasteful reasons. On the vegan side, they've got this amazing Vegan Beany Burger which comes as a tall stack made with a hefty beany mushroom patty, cashew tahini spread, balsamic caramelised onions, fresh avocado, spiced tomato, red pepper relish, slaw and fresh greens in a toasted sourdough bun.

Their Vegan Nutty Granola with Coconut Milk is a must-try too, and they also serve up a selection of healthy, vegan desserts like Peanut Butter Caramel Slice, Almond Butter Truffle Bliss Balls and Berry Chia Pudding to satiate your sweet tooth. To wash them all down, you can pick something from their vegan beverage range.

The Grind Coffeehouse

Known for its flavourful, dolled-up brunch dishes, The Grind Coffeehouse is a sister restaurant to Seed Cafe. And much like the Seed Cafe, they do many healthy, vegan dishes. In fact, it's one of the very few places in Colombo that does colourful lunch bowls, including vegan ones. Check out The Grind Power Bowl, The Rainbow Bowl, Beetroot, Greens and Quinoa Superfood Cold Salad and Quinoa With Sautéed Kale and Dried Blackcurrants Bowl, as well as the vegan sweet delights they've got on shelves.

Cafe Kumbuk

Using organic, seasonal and fresh ingredients, Cafe Kumbuk whips up some fascinating vegan dishes. On their breakfast menu, you'll spot the Big Vegan Brekkie — an assortment of fried eggplant, sauteed spinach, baby potatoes, masala baked beans, avocado, grilled tomatoes, sourdough toast and homemade vegan sausages. They also make a mean Vegan Avo Toast and a Vegan Breakfast Burrito.

As for lunch, Cafe Kumbuk dishes out a Naked Jackfruit Burrito Bowl, and a Hummus Bowl which is served with vegan kebab.

Life's Good Kitchen

Life's Good Kitchen is a testament to how life gets better when there's good food. And thankfully, that includes a couple of vegan dishes too, like their crunchy Vegan Falafel Wrap and Hummus served with freshly cut veggies.

For orders & inquiries: Uber Eats, 0776741266

Superfood Cafe

Superfood Cafe focuses on freshly assorted, vibrant, nutritious harvest bowls. You can easily make a vegan bowl of your own by mixing and matching the elements, or go for the pre-customised bowls, such as the Roasted Power Vegan Bowl, Falafel Vegan Bowl and Asian Tofu Bowl. Aside from that, they have a Vegan Falafel Wrap, and some fantastic desserts, which are not just vegan, but also healthy.

The Vegan Kitchen By Sulo

The Vegan Kitchen By Sulo is one of Colombo's very first vegan restaurants. Back then they had a nice, little restaurant in Wellawatte, but after a while, they moved their operations to Boralesgamuwa, and have been functioning as a cloud kitchen ever since.

It's one of the very few vegan home bakers in the city. Their burger and submarine range is quite enticing, and we highly suggest checking out their pizzas, pasta, rice and kottu too.

Hash Deli

Hash Deli is a home baker that caters to all kinds of dietary preferences. If you wish to purchase some vegan tarts, cakes, and cookies, this is the place for it. In fact, you will come across some of them on Superfood's menu too.
