This article is dedicated to all the vegans and vegetarians out there looking for a nice little  spot to eat out and also for anyone who still has that out-dated take on vegan food. No, it doesn’t revolve around bland flavours and boiled veggies. Just drop by one of these spots for a delicious change in opinion.

1. Café Kumbuk

Café Kumbuk, a little green escape in the heart of Colombo, is an ode to all things Sri Lankan. They are vegan-friendly with a variety of options to choose from, like their very own Vegan Burrito bowls and their signature “Big Vegan Brekkie”. Their interior is just as aesthetically pleasing as their dishes, with elements of our island beautifully incorporated everywhere.

2. Seed Café

A 150-year old building brought back to life as a refreshing little café, Seed café lays out quite the spread for both vegans and vegetarians. From nourishing vegan bowls, to their yummy burgers and smoothies as well as a mouth-watering selection of desserts: they have it all!

3. The Vegan

Launched in 2019,this restaurant which is the brainchild of two brothers, is 100% dedicated to all things vegan. Their menu has an interesting range of dishes from an infamous jackfruit based kottu to a delicious polos burger as well as a soy based iced-coffee free of all the nasties including gluten, lactose, preservatives and artificial colouring.

4. Superfood

Dishes at Superfood are put together with the idea of reinventing the whole concept of healthy eating to make it a delightful experience for everyone. They whip up the most vibrant dishes packed with nutrition and exploding with flavour. Their special range, named the Bowls of Goodness, features unique choices like the Falafel Vegan Bowl and the Asian Tofu Bowl. They also have vegan-friendly wraps and desserts and are definitely worth checking out!

5. The Milk & Honey Café

The Milk & Honey Café covers everyone’s requirements from vegans to vegetarians and kids as well as anyone gluten-free. All their dishes are whipped up in-house using fresh ingredients from local suppliers, which just adds to the overall wholesome vibe of the café.

7. Chutneys by Cinnamon Grand

Chutneys by Cinnamon Grand, brings together the unique flavours of four South Indian states (Kerala, Andhra Pradesh, Karnataka and Tamil Nadu) to recreate Indian food at its finest. Their menu is largely curated towards vegetarians, even though it does have non-veg options.
