As we stepped into the ‘Dine’ in Radisson Colombo, our senses were immediately tantalized by the
familiar fragrance of spices and the vibrant atmosphere of the much-anticipated launch of “Bombay Nights,” the latest addition to the hotel’s culinary offerings. Nestled in the heart of the city, Radisson Colombo has long been renowned for its hospitality, and tonight’s unveiling of their Indian buffet promised to be nothing short of spectacular.
Guests were greeted by a captivating display of decor that seamlessly intertwined elements of Sri Lankan and Indian culture, emblematic of the enduring partnership between the two nations. Small flags delicately adorned plates and tables, serving as subtle reminders of the shared heritage between Sri Lanka and India. The decor casted a colorful array of hues throughout the space, while a meticulously crafted Taj Mahal recreation stood as a centerpiece, evoking the grandeur of India’s architectural marvels. Every detail, signifying the authenticity of the night, clear on dishes, tables as well as walls and decors, promised guests an immersive dining experience unlike any other.
The first dish we tried, a delightful bowl of soup that tasted like an authentic, homemade Rasam, infused with the tantalizing flavor of chicken. Each spoonful transported us to the bustling streets of Mumbai, invoking memories of traditional Indian kitchens. Enhancing our main course was a revitalizing Lassi, skillfully prepared from velvety buttermilk and artfully harmonized with a symphony of sweet and savory undertones. A delicate touch of cinnamon added depth to the ensemble, resulting in a delightful fusion of flavors that gracefully enchanted the taste buds.
From the fragrant white rice to the aromatic Biriyani, each dish was a testament to the culinary expertise of the chefs at Radisson Colombo. The Kadai Seafood was enveloped in a rich and flavorful gravy, while the Butter Chicken melted in the mouth with its creamy texture and bold spices. The Paneer Tikka Masala offered a delightful vegetarian option, showcasing the perfect balance of tangy tomato sauce and tender paneer cubes. And let’s not forget the comforting Dhal Tadka, with its earthy flavors and comforting warmth, reminiscent of home-cooked meals. The buffet was also inclusive of a delicious beef curry, the Beef Vindaloo, which came apart and melted right in your mouth, while the strong taste of spices seamlessly blend with the rich meaty flavour.
What truly set Bombay Nights apart was its commitment to catering to every type of diner. In addition to the authentic Indian dishes, the buffet also featured international delights such as pasta and kebabs, each infused with its own Indian twist. This thoughtful inclusion ensured that guests of all tastes and preferences could find something to delight their palates, creating a true home of delicacy for all who dined there.
Throughout the evening, the in-house Indian chef, Satish, was a gracious host, taking the time to personally explain the subtle twists and additions that made each dish truly one-of-a-kind. His passion for Indian cuisine was evident in every bite, adding an extra layer of depth and authenticity to the dining experience. In the end, Bombay Nights at Radisson Colombo proved to be more than just a meal—it was a journey through the flavors, aromas, and traditions of India, leaving guests longing for more long after the last plate had been cleared.
Although beverages are not inclusive of the buffet, you have the option to indulge in a wide selection of beverages available for separate purchase from the extensive in-house beverage menu. Among the beverage offerings were shots of Nilkatarolu, Cucumber, and Mango Lassi. Of all the options, it was the Mango Lassi that stole the show, presenting a delightful fusion of robust mango cordial layered atop a velvety bed of creamy curd. This exquisite combination of flavors provided a lingering sensation on the palate, elevating the entire dining experience to unprecedented levels of indulgence.
A highlight of the dining experience undoubtedly emerged with the dessert selection, offering a plethora of tempting options to satisfy any sweet tooth. Among the array of choices, two stood out as clear favorites: the Suji Halva and the Black Currant Curd Cake. The Suji Halva, characterized by its delicate balance of richness and creaminess, provided a blissful conclusion to the meal, its subtle sweetness leaving a lasting impression. Meanwhile, the Black Currant Curd Cake offered a unique twist on the classic dessert, infusing the palate with the bold and tangy essence of black currants.
Not to be overlooked was the Passionfruit Cheesecake, a departure from traditional cheesecake offerings yet a delightful surprise with its burst of passionfruit flavor. And for those craving a taste of quintessential Indian sweets, the Jalebi and freshly prepared Gulab Jamun did not disappoint, delivering that beloved sweetness and familiar essence of Indian cuisine.
