CandleAid provides a stepping stone for the underprivileged through education, health and food. CandleAid Lanka is a Sri Lankan humanitarian organisation which acts as a link between someone’s generosity and another person's need.
CandleAid works in three primary areas:
Education Of all the CandleAid initiatives, greater emphasis is given to the education programme as they firmly believe that education provides a springboard to leap out of the well of poverty. Though this project CandleAid has established 180 libraries in rural Sri Lankan schools. Over 2200 students have been sponsored for their primary, secondary, and tertiary education through CandleAid.
Food Candleaid provides food assistance to poor families with children. The Food (Gift A Meal) Sponsorship Programme helps poor families with children. Dry rations are purchased and delivered to the family each month by the coordinator who also evaluates and recommends other pressing needs of the family.
Health The poor are already burdened by their poverty, how do then can the poor afford health care? CandleAid’s Health Programme is designed to address this question mainly relating to cancer.
Their motto is founded on the adage "It is better by far to light a solitary candle than to curse the darkness".
CandleAid was formed with the purpose of alleviating poverty in Sri Lanka. It is modelled on the belief that every person can do something to help another, irrespective of class, wealth or status.
If you would like to sponsor a particular area you can Sponsor A Student, Sponsor A Family or Sponsor A Patient
