The Dutch Reformed Church of the Galle fort, also known as the Groote Kerk, is one of the oldest Protestant churches still in use on the island. It was built by the Dutch in 1755 and is paved with tombstones from the old Dutch cemetery. The church garden itself is beautiful and haunting, with lush grass in the center flanked wall to wall by stone tablets.
