Fems Aya’s role in eradicating Period Poverty.

Period poverty is a global issue that affects millions of women and girls every day. In many parts of the world, women do not have access to the necessary period products they need to manage their menstrual cycle. This can have a significant impact on their lives, including their education, employment, and overall health. Fortunately, there are many charities and organizations working to address this issue and provide women with the resources they need to manage their periods with dignity.

One such charity is called Fems Aya. Founded in 2015, Fems Aya is a Sri Lankan-based charity that aims to provide period products to homeless and low-income women. The charity was founded after a group of friends discovered that many homeless women did not have access to the period products they needed. They decided to take action and began collecting and distributing period products to those in need.

Fems Aya operates by collecting donations of period products, which are then distributed to local shelters and food banks. They also work to raise awareness about period poverty and the impact it has on women’s lives. By doing so, they hope to change the conversation around periods and reduce the stigma that often surrounds menstruation.

In addition to providing period products, Fems Aya also works to address the root causes of period poverty. They advocate for policy changes that would provide free period products to all women, regardless of their income. They also work to promote education around menstrual health, so that women can make informed choices about their bodies.

The impact of Fems Aya’s work has been significant. Since its founding, the charity has distributed over 40,000 period products to women in need. They have also worked with local politicians and organizations to raise awareness about period poverty and advocate for change. Through their efforts, they have helped to ensure that homeless and low-income women have the resources they need to manage their periods with dignity.

Fems Aya is just one example of the many charities and organizations working to address period poverty. There are many ways to get involved, whether through volunteering, donating period products, or advocating for policy changes. By working together, we can ensure that every woman has access to the period products she needs to live a healthy, dignified life.
