Chef Azam Riyard, the ‘Dry-aged Steak Guy,’ brought his charisma, humor, and culinary brilliance to Cinnamon Grand, taking the helm at London Grill. Returning to Sri Lanka with a treasure trove of meat mastery, Chef Azam promised an unforgettable experience from January 10th to 21st, transforming London Grill into a haven for steak enthusiasts.
Chef Azam Riyard, the visionary behind the renowned Clubhouse Steakhouse in London, is a self-taught culinary artist and an alumnus of Trinity College with deep roots in traditional cooking. With a stellar reputation across the UK and Europe, Chef Azam is returning to his homeland, Sri Lanka, to helm the London Grill at Cinnamon Grand Colombo.
In the UK, Chef Azam recognized an unmet demand for halal steaks and embarked on a quest to perfect the craft of aging beef. This quest resulted in the establishment of the Clubhouse Steakhouse, an upscale venue celebrated for its dry-aged steaks, distinctive sauce blends, and the unique distinction of being the only European steakhouse that ages halal beef in-house.
As we stepped into the restaurant, the ambiance was a symphony of eclectic vibes. Sipping Rosè, enveloped in romantic melodies, it was fine dining at its most enticing. Now, let’s dive into the culinary journey we embarked on.
First up, the Dynamite Shrimp—a top favourite. Battered, glazed with Chef Azam’s special sauce and a touch of sriracha, it was a tantalising prologue to the meaty feast ahead.
Navigating through the menu, we encountered the Crab Ravioli Nouile. While not our personal favourite, the cream sauce redeemed the moderately tasteful filling, offering a dish that might resonate with those favoring subtlety over spice.
Then came the pièce de résistance—London Grill’s Signature Steak, the Philly Cheese Steak. Thinly sliced beef rump, pepper sauce, Monterey Jack Cheese, grilled red onion, and bell peppers, all nestled in a premium roll. It was a hands-on, love affair with flavours so delightful even non-meat lovers couldn’t resist.
The Rib-eye Fillet, dubbed the Butcher’s Favorite, showcased exquisite marbling, cooked to medium rare perfection. Paired with buttery mashed potatoes and fries, it was a culinary crescendo worth savouring.
And oh, the Buttery Mash with truffle oil—so rich, it felt almost sinful. Perfectly mashed, delicious, smooth, and serves an unforgettable taste.
Not forgetting the classics, we indulged in Caesar Salad and Crispy Fries, completing our culinary exploration.
In conclusion, it’s worth noting that all the meat served is 100% halal, a testament to London Grill’s commitment to quality.
