5 events to look forward to in 2022.

Hello, 2022! Just as much as there is a bunch of holidays lined up for your gateway, here’s a bunch of events to keep your 2022 a bit more interesting and livelier. The perfect outing for your family or for a gang of friends to hang around and enjoy. 

1. Kandy Esela Perehara 2022

The Esela Perehara is one of the main events looked forward to as it’s a massive tourist attraction event. 

Usually falls around the August Poya holiday and continues for about a week.

This year the tentative dates are from the 14th to the 24th of August. Book your tickets ahead of time to avoid disappointment. Early bird gets the best seating. 

While you’re at Kandy make sure to book a good bungalow to stay in. You can also visit the Dalada Maligawa, where you can the preparations happen. And also, to make maximum use of it you can visit the Udawatta Kale Sanctuary, the Kandy Lake and the Royal Botanical gardens.

2. Arugam Bay Half Marathon 

The Arugam Bay Half Marathon is a charity run, established in 2016 to collect funds to develop the schools in the area. This event is organized by the Arugam bay Development Forum. 

The marathon is divided into segments 

-5km for juniors between the ages of 12- 17

-10km and 21.1km or ages 17 and above. 

After the race, refreshments will be provided also along the marathon route there will be water stations for your convenience.

To stay and relax in you can book a villa of your own choice by supporting the tourism industry in Arugam Bay and also the local community.

3. Royal Turf Club 

Royal Turf Club in Nuwara Eliya Will be organizing a course of events, that will just be the perfect gateway, plan to relax and enjoy in one of the most scenic towns in the country. The prestigious race track which was introduced by the British still attracts many visitors. 

One of the most awaited events is The Governor’s Cup and the RTC Magic Million which is scheduled for the month of April.

From January to December Upcountry will be quite busy as the Royal Turf Club has quite a lot of events lined up. Gear up to witness one of the sophisticated events.

4. Automobile Sporting Events

Sri Lanka Automobile Sport will be organizing a bunch of nail-biting events this year for all petrol heads. There are a bunch of events lined up throughout the year island-wide. 

Starting off from The National Championship which will be held on the 19th and 20th of February in Matara, to the Fox hill Diyathalawa which will be held on the 23rd and 24th of April.  

That’s not it! SLAS have more events during the course of the year from the Sigiriya valley cross, Kukule Ganga hill climb to the Rotherham Katukurunda.

Unfortunately for the moment, spectators aren’t allowed, fingers crossed if the pandemic situation eases well, you’re up for a treat as well.

5. The Surfer Weligama

Here’s to making your trip down south a bit more interesting and unleashing the inner mermaid within you.

The Surfer Weligama is here to help. Conducting lessons from the month of September for the month of May they have got you covered from lessons to lodging. 

It’s not just surfing they will guide you through a Yoga session as well. You don’t have to worry about it you’ll be in the safe hands of an expert surfer.
