9 fashion trends to expect in 2022.

By Shanali Fernando

With a whole new year of fashion upon us, it’s exciting to look forward to the trends of 2022 — even if they include some throwbacks to the early 2000s. The good news in fashion for 2022 is comfort is here to stay. While we are still living somewhere in between the WFH days and full-on party mode here’s a few trends we picked up to look out for in 2022.

After having to be inside for a good two years and all those virtual workout classes we took, 2022 is the year to show it off and bare it all,

1. Mini’s

Miniskirts have made a major come back from 1990’s, and if you missed out on that trend now is the perfect time to jump on it! Look out, Hemlines are shrinking and waists are lowering; if you are not into mini’s but still want to shed some clothes you can take the

2. Crop top, bra top route.

Paired with a flare pant, mom jeans or high waisted skirt and stepping out into stifling heat and humidity will not be a problem. If you still have doubts about jumping into this trend you can always throw over an

3. Oversized shirt or t-shirt

This flattering and multifaceted choice can look amazing anywhere, making it an excellent choice for the office, a brunch date, or a trip to the market. Sometimes simple is best – a basic T-shirt with sneakers or slides are all you need for a subtle and stylish outfit. Still on the topic of showing skin

You can find a variety of oversized shirts at @incarnage_

4. Cut outs

Are a major trend this season. We’ve seen it from the runway to the red carpet and everywhere in between, and we know why. It’s an easy way to add an extra oomph to a classic LBD or summer dress. This trends is closely ‘tied up’ to the next big trend seen on runways to high street brands.

We personally love this cut out summer dress from @Mimosa Clothing ‘Love in a mist’ collection.

5. Tie up straps

Look out for all manner of straps this year ranging from evening wear to casual to sporty on cropped shirts, summer dresses and co-ord sets. It’s definitely an element that ties up the whole outfit together and shows you off as well put together.

After all of that time you spent at home in the past two-ish years if you are now left with many loungewear pieces and don’t know what to do with them not be dismayed.

This multi-way tie top from @Mimosa Clothing is a wardrobe essential.

6. Atleisure

Is a trend that will continue on, so you could totally step out in your gym wear to grab a coffee or a bite and call it fashion! Be it your oversized jogger pants and hoodie or your soft flowy culottes lounge wear is still big this year thanks to the unwelcome covid waves.

Moving on to more lighter girly things…

7. Floral dresses

2022 is not slowing down on floral dresses with fitted bodices and puff sleeves. The ballooned or puff sleeve trend will continue together with prim floral prints and flowy silhouettes while flirting with a frill or two to make those boomerangs work. For those who are not feeling the dress, skirt vibe

8. Wide leg pants

Are trending. Especially denim. While some are a bit hesitant to give up on the skinny jeans 2022 aesthetic is all about taking up space. This includes a lot of leg space.  Its another versatile ensemble you could wear for work paired up with a buttoned down shirt top , paired with a tee and a bucket hat for a shopping date or pair it with a flowy crop top and head out for brunch. The list is endless.

Without a couple of accessories none of these would be complete.

P.s how cute are these denims from Kelly Felder?

9. Accessories

Gone are the days where gold, silver, and pearls were the go-to accessories. Rainbow colored jewelry is what everyone is looking for to go with the brightly colored baguette bag that’s making a comeback. To make a statement one must have multiple ear piercings and multiple hoops on while stepping out. But to make it easier to walk on those streets a small platform heel or open toe sandal is what we wear in 2022.

Here’s hoping that we ride above the waves while keeping it fashionable!
