Here’s Why You Should Get The Vaccine.

COVID-19 did a great number on us. It's been a year and a half since the first outbreak in Wuhan, China, and it changed our lives in the blink of an eye. We're still living the self-isolated life with masks and sanitiser bottles while counting the days that we can return to normalcy.

Thankfully, there's a glimpse of hope now, all thanks to the many effective vaccines developed against COVID-19. Now, it's only a matter of how soon one can get it.

Here are 5 simple reasons why you should absolutely say "Yes" to vaccination against COVID-19.

An Effective Way To Build Protection

Wearing masks, washing/sanitising hands and social distancing are some of the reliable methods to protect yourself from getting COVID-19. They also minimise the spread of it.

However, moving forward, there should be a more effective and permanent solution to this, especially considering the life threatening complications that it may cause.

It's said that getting COVID-19 may offer some natural protection known as immunity, but the experts aren't quite sure about how long it lasts.

Therefore, it's evident that getting vaccinated is an effective way to build protection against COVID-19, as it triggers an immune response within the body. While the aforementioned measures minimise your chance of getting exposed to the virus, the vaccine will fight and protect you against it, even if you encounter the virus.

Slows Down The Spread

COVID-19 affects certain groups less seriously than others based on age, health, and other factors. Nonetheless, if you've been diagnosed with COVID-19, there is a massive chance that you'd spread the disease to the people around you. If your circle includes people with underlying health conditions or suppressed immune systems, COVID-19 affects them more severely, in comparison to a usual, healthy human.

Vaccination is the most important tool for stopping the pandemic. Getting yourself vaccinated provides the best protection to you, and helps to protect the whole community. When enough people in the community are vaccinated, it slows down the spread of disease.

In order to achieve herd immunity, a large amount people should be vaccinated. So even if there are people who are unable to receive the vaccine, due to severe allergies, weakened immune systems or critical health conditions, they can be still protected when they live amongst others who are vaccinated.

Reduce The Economic And Social Impact Of The Pandemic

The pandemic has made a huge negative impact on almost every aspect of our lives, including the economy, tourism, social, education and health care. It will take years to recover from the damage it has caused, but getting vaccinated at a community level can help to smoothen up the road to recovery, and improve our livelihoods.

With higher vaccination rates, there will be fewer outbreaks, which also reduce the need for prevention measures like lockdowns, curfews, border closures and travel restrictions.

Available For Free

At the moment, vaccination against COVID-19 involves no cost in Sri Lanka. There is a slightly hectic process to get yourself vaccinated, and a few things that you should do afterwards, but aside from that, this whole thing is quite simple.

You Can Get Back To Normalcy

Well, not completely, but to some extent, yes!

Vaccination, together with preventive behaviours may be the only possible exit from this pandemic. By accomplishing the herd immunity, everyone can go back to live in the normal, functioning society – from working from office and Friday drinks to family events and schooling, with no social distancing, no masks and no fear. Basically, we get our lives back. It's the long term goal of vaccination.
